The White Tornadoes

On 11, Jun 2014 | In Documentary, News, Sport | By Rory Brennan

Little Tale’s Rory Brennan recently finished editing The White Tornadoes for BSkyB.

Created with producer Tom Edwards, the 30-minute documentary tells the story of an unfancied England Rugby Union side that faced the All Blacks in New Zealand in 1973. The English side won, subsequently making history as the first British side to do so.

I love telling these underdog stories. There is so much natural drama based in the reality of the event. Also, the players from that era were amateurs, so it’s a story that resonates with the everyman.
We were very lucky to have access to archival match footage from the tour, which as a Rugby Union fan was very exciting to see. However, due to a tight budget, we had to be very selective about the footage we could use. Despite this, I’m incredibly happy with the result and I’m sure Rugby Union fans will find it as captivating as I have.
