The 2014 Australian Open

On 02, Feb 2014 | No Comments | In News, Sport | By Rory Brennan

For the fourth year in a row, Rory was fortunate enough to work at The Australian Open for ESPN as a Motion Graphics Artist & Ingest Manager.

Working at Tennis Grand Slams is always exciting. Some of the best tennis you’ll see is on offer in both the ATP and WTA. Also, coming from the Northern Hemisphere winter to the Australian sun is always a pleasant relief. Melbourne is such a great city and there is a relaxed, positive energy present during the tournament.

The weather actually played a major part at this tournament as a heatwave struck rising temperatures up to 40 degrees for five days in a row. This saw air conditioners struggle and our workstations began to fry, but I’d rather be uncomfortable in an edit suite than a professional tennis player in that heat.

Despite this weather challenge, ESPN always endeavours to provide the best equipment and the best people to ensure a high quality product. That attitude makes it a privileged to be involved in ESPN’s broadcast. Accordingly, I’m looking forward to Wimbledon.
